Telescopes are great, and while you can snag a decent one for relatively cheap, making your own is always more fun. If you don’t mind putting in a bit of effort, Make walks you through making your own with a 3D printed case.

Their guide is based on PiKon and you’ll find the bulk of the official directions over on Dropbox. Once you get all the parts 3D printed somewhere and find a PVC pipe, you just need to assemble everything, line up the mirrors, then install the Raspberry Pi and camera. By the end, you’ll have a telescope that can easily take photos and upload them anywhere you please. Head over to Make for an overview and parts list.
